Updates from the Amalfi Coast: A land of boats

I’ve always had a fascination for boats. And when I say boats, I’m talking about ultra luxurious, floating private hotels, super yachts and what you’d expect to see Robin Leach talking about on Lifestyles of the Rich and Famous. Here in la Costiera there is a constant stream of these stunning boats going by. I sit in awe and like to imagine where they are going. Perhaps they are on their way over to Capri, up to Portofino or maybe down to the Greek Islands.

I like to dream about who these people are and what they do. This particular boat that came past yesterday caught my eye and is the largest boat I’ve seen, I really couldn’t believe the size of it. I found out later it is called Le Ponant, a small luxury cruise ship.

Around lunch is a great time to see many of these boats as they line up outside waterfront restaurants. Restaurants pick up the passengers in small boats to take them in for a leisurely lunch. We saw this a lot in Positano and Nerano. After lunch they all cruise away to their next destination. I love that idea!
